Steve is the Southern Agricultural Regional Manager for the Department of Agriculture and Food, based in Albany. As the Regional Manager, Steve is responsible for an area which covers the Great Southern, Ravensthorpe and Esperance shires

Steve considers that a major issue for the Great Southern is to maintain productivity and good agricultural practices for the increasing numbers of small landholders in the area while ensuring that productive land and best water supplies are achievable.Steve is committed to the efforts of primary producers in their endeavours to market raw and value added produce to domestic and international markets and believes that the GSRMA can play a vital role in helping producers to achieve greater market share, something which not only benefits the producer, but also the economic viability of the region.

Linda Harris

Kendenup Lodge & Cottages.

Tourism.

I am 53 years of age and have only been in the tourism industry for 9 years.  My husband and I decided to have a ‘lifestyle change’ in 1999 and purchased the land where Kendenup Lodge and Cottages is now situated.
I found that the tourism industry motivated me like never before.  Armed with the challenge of making a small business successful in a small town we decided to take the GIANT leap into hospitality as an addition to our existing tourism business.

We have experience with the Australian Tourism Exchanges, lobbying through the Tourism Council and working with Tourism WA to help the industry in my area succeed.

I currently sit on the Mount Barker Tourism Bureau Board where yet again another challenge is faced.

As an outsider I have been unhappy with my experiences with the GSRMA so I have decided that change could only possibly come about by being in a position where I can  ‘have a say’.  Hence my nomination to the board of the GSRMA.

Marie O’Dea - (Term expires March 2009)

Natural Resources.

With a farm upbringing in the Adelaide Hills and a career in agriculture, wine and health she is a passionate “foodie”.  Currently employed in health and hospitality, Albany has been home since early 2006.  Marie is no sea or tree changer as she has lived and worked in regional Australia for most of her life.  Authenticity in production systems and marketing has been of interest since spending time in the UK.  The mad cow scare was at its height and Cornish Lamb producers using essentially the same production system as NZ or Australia were gaining a major premium over the frozen lamb of NZ.  Experience with an international trading company and in agri-politics have ensured that she does not see agriculture and food production through rose-tinted glasses.
